Copying Famous Secret Recipes
So here I am in the middle of the Cotswolds (UK) just down the road from William Shakespeare's birthplace, when I come across two books that relate to copying famous secret recipes. Now these books relate to recipes found in famous restaurant chains in the USA , and there are quite a few recipes, 750 in one and two volumes with the other. Intrigued by this concept I decided to investigate further. I would guess that Americans eat out far more often than we do here in the U.K and for lots of good reasons - choice, quality, cost and convenience. However, there does seem to be a move to return to good old fashioned home cooking, and what better than to cook some of your favorite restaurant meals. Not only is it a lot cheaper, less time waiting in queues but you can impress your neighbours and friends with your new found skills and cuisines. Here are few quotes from these books that illustrate my point: |

Last night the weather was really bad, so instead of going out to Chili's, we cooked the Monterey Chicken recipe from your ebook and we couldn't even tell the difference!"

"My husband and I went to Red Lobster mainly for the cheddar biscuits and clam chowder. Since I bought your book, we've been able to cook both of these at home, whenever we want."

There is another aspect to all of this and that is COST!
I am of the opinion that both Americans and Brits are in for difficult times financially and that probably means doing without a few things - maybe like dinning out so often. So it makes sense to think about dinning in - any way I'm sure we can all have as much fun and probably more by returning to some good old fashioned home cooking and home entertaining. I think these two books are definitely worth a look, not only for Americans but also for us in the U.K. I appreciate we may not know the recipes or the restaurants in question but that's what makes it more exiting. |
